Hi,

On my morning jazz show, Sounds Like Home, today, Thursday, 11/5/09,
9-11:30 CST,  streaming at www.weft.org, I'll be interviewing the great
trombone player Jim Pugh and trumpeter Walter Blanton . Jim Pugh brought
Blanton, his long time collaborator,  to U.I. for a week of workshops,
composer forums, concerts. Blanton, b. 1944, played with Woody Herman
and in the house bands of the great, and now no longer, Las Vegas clubs.
He is a remarkable horn player--buttery tone, with enormous range-- and
a composer who is inspired by visual art. I will ask him about the state
of jazz today, about the demise of Vegas venues, his advice  to young
jazzer/composers, the relationship between visual and musical art, and
about life as a jazz musician-- hard on a marriage.
