As some of you here in town know, local guitarist Shawn Purcell's father
passed away recently.  His father is Randy Purcell and was a well-known
trombonist.  He was one of Maynard Ferguson's favorite trombonist and
was featured a lot with Maynard back in the 1970s.

Shawn Purcell will be my guest on WEFT 90.1 FM Friday morning from
9:30-11:30 AM.  You can also hear it live on the internet at
www.weft.org <http://www.weft.org>  We will be doing a Randy Purcell
Tribute during that time.  Shawn brought back from Pittsburgh recordings
of his father with Maynard's band, including some rare bootlegs of both
big band recordings and small group recordings.  We will also have
special guests calling in sharing their thoughts and stories on Randy.
Those guests will include well-known musicians such as Bill Watrous, Jim
Pugh, Peter Erskine, Stan Mark, Joe Mosello, Keith O'Quinn, Rich Szabo,
Steve Wiest, Joe Jackson, Joe Fiedler, and Nelson Foltz.
