Annual Jazz Festival featuring the Yellowjackets.

In addition to the free performance by Bob Mintzer with the EIU Jazz

_Yellowjackets in concert:_

For more than 25 years, the Yellowjackets have pushed the boundaries of
improvisational jazz, and have been leaders in the music?s inescapable

bassist Jimmy Haslip, tenor saxophonist Bob Mintzer and drummer Marcus
Baylor, the Yellowjackets continue to explore a diverse cross-section of

Steve Gorn (bansuri flutes), Yosef Ben Israel (bass) and Jason Finkelman

music reflecting their cross-cultural world jazz backgrounds.  New York
State based Steve Gorn is recognized as a master of the Bansuri flute,
performing in traditional, classical Indian music and regarded as a
pioneer in "world music" recordings, staring with Asian Journal issued
in 1988.  Chicago bassist Yosef Ben Israel's hallmark is his versatility
in performing a variety of musical styles including jazz, blues and the
avant-garde.  Urbana based percussionist Jason Finkelman specializes in
the berimbau, an Afro-Brazilian bow instrument, and performs primarily
as an improviser on a wide variety of instruments handcrafted by Adimu

JOEY TARTELL - Joey is currently trumpet professor a Indiana
University.  He has played lead trumpet with Maynard Ferguson, Woody
Herman, Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, Steve Allee Big Band,
Buselli / Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors, and many
others.

LOY HETRICK -  Loy is the top lead trombonist in the Indianapolis area
for both classical and jazz.

JARED RONIN - Jared is a trombone professor at Butler University in
Indianapolis, also performs in the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra,
Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Steve Allee Big Band, and
Busselli-Wallarab Big Band.

Dancers, Musicians and Actors are invited to explore improvisation in
structured and open formats facilitated by Hallie Aldrich (MFA Candidate
in Dance) and Jason Finkelman (Dance Accompanist, UIUC).

A goal of the Sunday Improv Lab is to provide an informal setting for
improvising artists of all levels to experiment in cross-disciplinary
practices and establish new musician-performer-actor relationships.

Sessions will include a facilitated warm-up, focused improvisations /
explorations, and an open jam.  There is no fee to participate and all
are welcome to attend.  Participants should wear comfortable clothing
for movement.

Soprano saxophonist* Michel Doneda* of/ From Between Trio/ returns to
the Sudden Sound Concert Series with French compatriot* L? Quan Ninh*, a
classically trained percussionist regarded as one of the most
accomplished of European improvisers. Doneda and Ninh have been creating
music together in various ensembles since the mid-eighties, and each are
noted for their use of extended techniques on their instruments.
