*Hamid Drake - Nicole Mitchell - Yosef Ben Israel*
*Thursday, February 22, 2007 - 7:30PM free admission*
Krannert Art Museum, 500 E. Peabody Dr., Champaign.
Percussionist Hamid Drake, flutist Nicole Mitchell, and bassist Yosef
Ben Israel, are all leading musicians in the progressive jazz / creative
music scenes of Chicago and beyond. Hamid Drake remains one of the most
in-demand drummer / percussionists of today's international progressive
jazz community, providing deep rhythmic foundations that draw upon North
/ West African and Indian impulses, as well as reggae and Latin music.
Last appearing in this series with her Black Earth Strings ensemble,
Nicole Mitchell continually explores new sounds and creative techniques
as a flutist, composer and core member of the Association for the
Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). Yosef Ben Israel's hallmark
is his versatility as a bassist, which has allowed him the opportunity
to perform with many leading artists who span a variety of musical
styles including jazz, blues and the avant-garde.
This concert is part of the Sudden Sound Concert Series which seeks to
present creative artists exploring the art of improvised music and the
jazz avant-garde.
